Saint Luke - and Healing

Luke was born in Antioch and, by profession, was a physician. He had become a disciple of the apostle Paul and later followed Paul until Paul's martyrdom. Having served the Lord continuously, unmarried and without children, filled with the Holy Spirit he died at the age of 84 years. In traditional depictions, such as paintings, evangelist portraits and church mosaics, St. Luke is often accompanied by an ox or bull, usually having wings.

His feast day is kept on October 18th. Because he was believed to be a physician, it is traditional to think about Healing Ministry at this season. The Holy Communion service in Epwell on October 18th will include anointing and prayer for healing. You are warmly welcomed to come to ask God for healing and wholeness (not the same as a cure) for yourself or for those you love and pray for.
