From Shutford

There have been some good congregations in church during Advent and Christmas. Advent started with a reflective early evening service of carols and readings with refreshments in church. We had lots of visitors for our Christmas services including Christingle attended by 43 and a total of 72 for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Holy Communion. As usual the church was beautifully decorated with flowers and greenery and a Christmas Tree which this year had “stars” on it in remembrance of people and events.

There has been a time of more informal interaction with a Beetle Drive, Souper Saturday, Messy Church and a Carol Evening. All involved good company, some fun and food and drink provided by PCC members.

This year's carol singing around the village was abandoned because of wet weather but Deddington Brass played in church for about 30 singers who enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies provided by Shutford Community Association.

Our social events have brought together many villagers who are not regular worshippers but value the presence of the church in the village. We have raised funds for the church through donations and have also recently given £100 to The Children`s Society and £30 to Banbury Young Homeless Project for whom we have a collection box in church for food items.

Our Illuminate and Celebrate initiative continues to be popular raising £750 for church funds: the tower was illuminated for most of the 12 days of Christmas!

Our Christmas Draw raised £594 towards our church building insurance.
