December Newsletter

Christmas is on its way, SO PLEASE CHECK THE WYKEHAM NEWS for Service details and times. Don’t forget the three Traditional Carol Services.

The Christmas Bazaar will have taken place in the Sibford Village Hall by the time this is published and it is hoped that it will have been its usual success. It is also hoped that the Sibford Millennium Panels will have been of interest to old and new residents. These are usually stored away for safety and are not often on show. Showing many houses and scenes of the village they were painstakingly made by many volunteers.

The beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday on 13th February follows very soon after Christmas. It is hoped that there will be a Lent Discussion group in the village as well as the usual groups in Broughton on Thursday mornings and Tadmarton after Holy Communion on Tuesdays at 10.30 am. Further details of all of these will be announced as soon as possible.

There will be a meeting early in the New Year of all Sibford choir members together with any others who it is hoped, would like to join them. The meeting will consider a possible alteration to the regular choir practise time to suit more of the participants also the possibility of the choir singing regularly at Sunday services in the village. It is hoped that Keith Allen will be able, despite his recent illness, to continue the marvellous work he did with the choir in preparation for the RSCM Annual Festival Evensong. Those who were able to attend the sell- out 20th anniversary concert of Birmingham Symphonic Winds, which was founded by Keith, will bear testament to the magnificence of this orchestra under his direction.

We had a marvellous Remembrance Sunday Service, with a full church, and a smart Parade by the Uniformed Organisations. I think James (Ronald and Liz’s soldier son) newly commissioned 2nd Lieut, got the full works with some searching questioning from his father on being in a present day Army and his reasons for joining it. His sword was competently brandished by the Rector, greatly to the enjoyment of the younger members of the congregation.

On Jan 16th the Joint PCCs of the Benefice meet in Sibford Village Hall.

The Rector and his family is joined by the Churchwardens and members of the PCC in wishing all in the village a very happy Christmas and happy and prayerful New Year.
