Swalcliffe news

More Tea, Vicar? A big thank you to Ronald and Liz for a wonderful afternoon of superb organ playing and a delicious cream tea. The atmosphere was very jolly with over 70 people coming from all over the Benefice to support us. Thank you to everyone for giving so generously to Swalcliffe church funds; we raised £348 from donations. We hope we can persuade R and L to play again next year.

Increasing accessibility: on Monday 2nd October at 4pm AAT will be giving a demonstration of a Stairclimber at the church. This could possibly solve the problem of disabled access up our very steep steps without having to do major earth works.

Renaissance Music: a concert based on a musical history of Elizabethan London will be performed by PIVA on Saturday 21st October. Doors open at 7pm with the music starting at 7.30pm. There is a bar and you will be able to meet the musicians during the interval. For tickets and more information please visit the village website http://www.swalcliffe.org

Come dine with us! We are celebrating Harvest this year with a Supper by Candlelight on Saturday 28th October at 7.00pm in the church! We are providing a delicious 3 course meal – with a cold meat carvery generously donated by our local farmers. There will also be a short musical interlude with gypsy folk/jazz guitarist Misha Kovalov. It’s always a great opportunity to meet  up with fellow villagers, so book your tickets in advance online at www.swalcliffe.org or contact Kate Foley on 788 223 or Linda Lane on 780 242. Tickets are £15 (£7.50 for children over 10 who are also very welcome). BYOB (Bring your own booze!). Anyone wanting to come who might find the steps difficult please let us know.

Christmas is coming! Join us for Carols and a Nativity story with a twist: How the Shepherds saw it on Friday 22nd December at 6.30pm. It’s a wonderful way to start the Christmas festivities and always lots of fun!  Do let Gay or Virginia know if you or your children would like to take part. Mulled wine, mince pies, squash and sausages will be provided but please bring a gift to put under the tree which we will be donating directly to Katharine House Hospice.

Swalcliffe Concerts - provisional dates for 2018: 5th May: Hook Norton Brass Band will lead 'The Big Sing'. Saturday 7th July: An evening of brilliant choral music by the Esterhazy Singers from London.
