Broughton news

James Taylor of Broughton Grounds writes...

In November I'm walking about 100 miles across the epicentre of the Nepal earthquake with two friends, to try and raise awareness of the impact of the quake and funds for two organisations working in rural areas. We have a simple website (still needs a bit of work in the next few days!) and will update it as we walk with photos and stories from the people we meet: http://nepalepicentre.org/.

The walk will be across some quite remote parts of Gorkha and Dhading districts, and the projects we are fundraising for are rural development / livelihood projects run by United Mission to Nepal (who I used to work for) and Practical Action (based in Rugby).

We had a lovely Harvest weekend, with splendid flowers remaining from THE wedding, and an afternoon Harvest Festival, attended by over 40 people and with a delicious Afternoon Tea too. Later that same week Bishop Carpenter School came to church for their Harvest service, bringing a table groaning under the weight of fruit and veg, tins and packets, which all went to POLLY straight afterwards.

On November 21st from 2pm to 4pm you are ALL invited to the Broughton Bazaar in St Mary’s House, where there will be stalls, teas and cakes, a raffle and plenty of chance to chat and put the world to rights.

Just a bit further ahead, the Benefice Confirmation Service will be in Broughton on December 6th at 10am. Bishop Colin will be joining us for what I’m sure will be a very happy occasion – and you are all invited too!

Jen Franklin and family would like to thank family and friends for all the love and support you have shown them during this very difficult time since Mick died. Heartfelt thanks to Rev Ronald too.
