Sibford Parish News, 14 December 2020

Church wall and gates

The wall has been rebuilt and the gates beautifully restored after the unfortunate accident when a car rolled across the road from the village hall car park.  David Gill took on the responsibility of the arduous task of dealing with Insurance, Quotations, DAC guidelines, and I am most grateful to him for this.  It is a job very well done. Thank you, David.

Polly boxes

Polly Boxes, as it seems they are now called, will be collected in church on Wednesday 16th, 9am  - 3.30pm and displayed at the Family Carol Service on Friday 18th, then taken to Polly for her to distribute to the needy and homeless in Banbury.  Generously, approximately 20 boxes have been promised, a few already delivered to Church.

Family Carol Service

On Friday 18th, led by the Reverend John Tattersall. As we are not able to sing as a congregation, holding a traditional Carol Service would have proved difficult; the Family Carol Service is for all ages. A mini Benefice choir will sing the carols and Caroline Long will lead on the organ. Instead of a sermon there will be two short minute videos, a delightful Nativity play performed by children in Auckland, NZ and the other by Christian Aid showing the life of Noor and his family in Bethlehem today. There will be readings by all ages and a boy soloist.

Numbers must be limited; please reserve your seats by email to church@thesibfords.uk

Benefice Midnight Communion

Starting at 11.30 pm. Again, please reserve your seats by email to church@thesibfords.uk

Christmas Day Service

10 am Family Communion; please reserve your seats by email to church@thesibfords.uk

Decorations!

The church has been beautifully decorated by Gil Soden and members of the Flower team and the tree is in place after several attempts.  Many thanks to Tim Huckvale, David Allen, Chris Fieldhouse and Peter Hine for their manpower, I believe it is probably the largest tree yet donated by Bruce Woodall; our grateful thanks to Bruce. The church will continue to be open on Wednesdays and Sundays 9 - 3.30, so even if you are shielding, pop in and enjoy.

Message from the Reverend Neil Bowler

Our Rector elect: “Please pass on to the congregation my very best wishes for a happy and joy filled Christmas and please let them know how much I'm looking forward to be their Rector, and that each church and parish have been a part of my daily morning prayers ever since my appointment was announced”.
