Swalcliffe news

Mothering Sunday: We had a very happy and well attended afternoon service taken by Ronald when all mothers received pansies for the garden and the children filled themselves with fairy cakes!

Celebrate the summer in style with friends at the Swalcliffe Al Fresco Garden Party on Saturday, 27th July from 7pm at Abingdon House, Park Lane. Tickets £15 each to include fabulous supper. Look out for details on the village website re advance ticket sales.

We are delighted to see families from around the Benefice making use of the new Woodland Play Park. Bring your children and grandchildren to play, explore, learn and meet friends in the natural woodland setting (with a few surprises!). We are proud to be supporting this amazing new village amenity which is there for the wider community to enjoy.

On 30th March Swalcliffe hosted its first Spring Craft Market in conjunction with the opening of the Play Park. On a glorious sunny day a variety of colourful craft stalls filled the Church and there was also a café and BBQ. It certainly felt like Spring!!! The day was a great success and raised a total of £1640. The Church received £500 for maintenance. Thrive (a local charity supporting children in poverty) also received £500. The Village Hall and the Play Park each received £320. Many thanks to all who helped support this event!

On 6th April the Church was filled with wonderful music, amusing songs and tales. The talented trio Purcell's Polyphonic Party arrived with a fascinating array of unfamiliar instruments including harpsichord, nyckelharpa, viola d'amore and cowhorn! Their concert included a number of Purcell's compositions blended with traditional tunes from Sweden, Britain and elsewhere. The Band and audience alike thoroughly enjoyed the evening and with 72 tickets sold a profit of £630 was made for the church.
